A beard or mustache transplant aims to restore hair in areas where hair growth is lacking or thin. Men often do it to give them a more masculine and mature look. This transplant can also help to conceal scars, such as acne scars.
Historically, beards used to be filled in with hair plugs, which usually ended up with a patchy appearance. But with our beard or mustache transplant, you can have facial hair that looks natural.
These techniques can be quite complex, especially since the angle and direction of hair changes in beards and mustaches. Facial hair transplantation requires experience. Renowned hair-restoration expert Dr. Stephen J. Ronan has the years of experience needed to achieve incredible results.
Your Beard/Mustache Transplant procedure will be performed in Blackhawk Hair Restoration’s surgery center located in Danville.
Patients who are suitable candidates for a beard or mustache transplant have either a total absence of facial hair or patchy beard or mustache growth. Patients are interested in achieving fuller facial hair.
Good candidates may also be interested in using new beard or mustache growth to cover up small scars and burns due to a prior injury. Transgender patients who are physically transitioning may also be ideal candidates.
The best candidates are in good general health, have realistic expectations, and are willing to commit to Dr. Ronan’s pre- and post-procedure instructions.
During a consultation, Dr. Ronan will ask you about your beard and mustache goals. He will examine your facial hair and scalp to check if you have enough donor hair.
Dr. Ronan will review your overall health and your medical history, including current medications and pre-existing conditions. He will also ask you about any factors that may be contributing to your hair loss or patchy growth.
Dr. Ronan will create a personalized treatment plan for your beard or mustache transplant. He will discuss the procedure in detail with you, including expected results and aftercare directions.
During a beard or mustache transplant, Dr. Ronan will start by harvesting hair from the head. Before the harvesting starts, a local anesthetic will be administered. After harvesting, a local anesthetic will be delivered in the areas where the hair will be implanted. Each follicle will then be implanted one by one on the facial skin.
After the beard or mustache transplant, you will need a full day for downtime. You might see tiny crusts around each implanted follicle, but these will disappear after a few days. It may take 10 days before you can shave and trim again. Your new beard hair may fall out after two to three weeks, but you can expect new hair to grow back in these areas after that.
